A person has been seriously injured after a car and lorry were involved in a motorway crash.

One lane remains closed on the M4 westbound in Wiltshire, after the entire carriageway was closed at about 01:00 BST between Junction 14 (Hungerford) and Junction 15 (Swindon).

National Highways said all local emergency services, including Wiltshire Police and Wiltshire Air Ambulance, attended the scene.

Work also had to be carried out to treat a fuel spillage caused by the crash.

The road was closed in both directions between about 01:00 BST and 03:00 BST to allow the air ambulance to land, the eastbound carriageway later reopened to traffic.

Drivers in the area experienced delays, with diversions in place around the incident.
