Plant pot sculpture trail raises money for school

A Somerset village has been adorned with sculptures made out of recycled plant pots as part of a new trail.
Made by local volunteers and families, the walking trail in Temple Cloud is running until 17 August and is raising money for both Temple Cloud in Bloom (TCIB), a volunteer-run gardening group, and Cameley CEVC Primary School PTA.
The trail includes sculptures of giraffes, a cow, pigs and people.
Organiser Becky Hall said: "We have had an amazing response. There are some fascinating ones."
TCIB is celebrating its 10-year anniversary in 2024 and the group, which looks after the village's green spaces and runs a monthly gardening club, wanted to host something special to mark the milestone.
The trail also includes a sculpture called Carla, who can be found opposite the Temple Inn and whose outfit is changed daily.
Ms Hall said the group reached out to the community, and have since had an "array of different' designs.
There is no aim in terms of fundraising, but the group "just want to do something nice for the community".
"It's not about money, so to speak, but anything that we can raise will go a long way, especially within our community," Ms Hall added.
It is also something people can do with the children during the summer holidays.
Ms Hall said the response has been so positive, people are wanting to make the trail an annual event.
"For such a little small village it sort of brings the community together," she said.
Ms Hall said the event was also all about raising awareness of the benefits and the enjoyment of gardening.
"We kind of want to get people involved in gardening. You don't see gardening as something that is fashionable, especially in the younger generations," she said.
Donations are made through people purchasing a map of trail.
