A Jersey minister says the government "really wants" to see the first shows at the island's refurbished Opera House by Easter 2025.

The Grade II listed building will get a new roof and interior as part of the restoration work which the government has allocated funding worth £11.5m.

The building closed in March 2020 and was due to reopen in the summer of 2022, but the plans were delayed due to the complexity of renovation work.

Economics minister Kirsten Morel said he hoped the audience would be back "in just under a year's time".

"Lots of things can still happen between now and the completion date," he said.

"But as far as I'm concerned, I've told the Opera House that we really want to see the first shows in here by Easter next year."
