Maintenance work to repair and improve 11 publicly owned swimming pools across Leeds is set to be carried out over the next two years.

The work will ensure the facilities remain safe and clean to a "high standard", a Leeds City Council report said.

A contract for the upgrades, which are set to cost £800,000, has been put out to tender.

The works include repairs to pump and valve equipment, as well as improvements to cleaning and filtration systems.

The council report said the upgrades would support its efforts to become carbon neutral by ensuring that equipment is "fully functional and efficient, therefore not wasting energy".

Pools at Wetherby Leisure Centre, Aireborough Leisure Centre and Fearnville Leisure Centre in north Leeds are in line to be improved.

Chippindale Pool, based at Prince Henry's Grammar School in Otley, as well as facilities at leisure centres in Kippax, Kirkstall, Rothwell and Pudsey, will also benefit from the scheme.

The pools at Scott Hall Leisure Centre, John Smeaton Leisure Centre in east Leeds and the John Charles Centre for Sport will be upgraded too.
