Devon and Cornwall objected to plans for a club's extended opening hours for the party

A Halloween party at a night-time venue in Bodmin has been given a green light to go ahead despite an initial objection by the police.

Nuno Simoes, owner of MK Lounge Bar, applied to Cornwall Council for a temporary event notice to host a Halloween celebration party to run until 01:30 BST on 27 October for up to "200 people".

A prevention of crime and disorder objection previously from Devon and Cornwall Police said the event would have a "negative effect on the licensing objectives".

However, police said they had now made an agreement with the venue.

'Admin error'

A decision was due to be made at a council licensing committee meeting on Monday.

Police confirmed the agreement was made before the meeting.

Mr Simoes told police the application was for the premises to run for an extra hour until 01:00 BST, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

He said the intention was for customers to leave by 01:30 BST and the venue would employ three security staff, with dispersal encouraged to reduce and minimise noise in the area.

Devon and Cornwall Polcie said: "Apparently the initial decline from our side was because of an admin error in the initial application – they resolved that and we okayed it."

The go-ahead comes after the venue applied in April to extend its opening hours until 01:30 BST on Saturday nights.

However, this received representations from more than 30 concerned residents about the effect on the area.
