Drivers warned to avoid area after building fire

Work is underway to repair the building on Scotland Road, Liverpool

Motorists have been warned of severe disruption due to a fire at a building on Scotland Road in Liverpool.
Firefighters were called to the incident at a three-storey building between the junctions of Chapel Gardens and Penrhyn Street at around 06:50 BST.
Four fire engines were sent to the building adjoining The Eagle Vaults pub and a road closure is in place.
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said there was severe traffic congestion on Scotland Road and urged motorists to avoid the area.
They said buildings on either side had been cleared. No one is believed to have been in the building at the time of the fire.
Residents and businesses nearby have been advised to keep doors and windows closed.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix has reported congestion to routes through Liverpool, with long delays expected.
