Part of busy Lake District road to close for works

The works form part of a £37.7m commitment to improve drainage

Part of a busy Lake District road is due to close while resurfacing works get under way.
A section of the A592 in Patterdale, between Patterdale Estate and St. Patrick's Church, will close from Monday to Friday between 09:15 to 15:00 GMT.
Westmorland and Furness Council said the works involved stripping and replacing the existing road surface, as well as drainage repairs.
The work forms part of a £37.7m programme to improve the area's roads, which has also included drainage work at Glenridding.
Westmorland and Furness Council said it was responsible for maintaining 2,600 miles (4,184 km) adopted roads across the area.
'Major power cable'
Outside the times of closure at Patterdale, the council said the road would open with traffic signals and a convoy vehicle control.
Bus companies and waste and recycling collection services have been informed in order to make alternative arrangements.
The Liberal Democrat-led council said it had considered residents' requests to complete the work overnight, but said contractors needed daylight "particularly where some of the work involves some precision excavation around a major power cable".
"We have carefully planned the timing of the works during the October half-term holidays so that school transport isn't affected and before the worst of the winter weather sets in," it added.
