Emergency services were called to the A1(M) on Thursday 2 January after separate crashes

A second person in their 80s has died following two separate crashes on the same stretch of motorway on the same day.

Hertfordshire Police said a woman in her 80s died four days after a collision between a pink Kia Picanto and a white Peugeot Boxer lorry near junction eight, for Stevenage north, of the A1(M) northbound.

The collision happened at about 14:00 GMT on Thursday 2 January. Earlier that same day a man, also in his 80s, was fatally injured in crash involving a red Mazda near the northbound entrance of junction nine, for Letchworth Garden City.

A police spokesman said: "There was heavy traffic in the area at the time due to a road closure at junction nine following a separate incident."

They added: "I am hopeful that the busy traffic means that there are witnesses out there who can help.

"If anyone has dashcam footage that can assist our enquiries, please upload it via herts.police.uk/dashcamupload.

"Our thoughts remain with the family of the woman at this difficult time."
