A cyclist has died after he was struck by a van in Leeds, police have said.

Police were called to the collision on Great North Road in Ledsham at about 06:10 BST, to reports of a serious incident involving the cyclist and a white van.

The male cyclist died at the scene, and the driver of the van, a 29-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Anyone with information about the crash, or who may have dashcam footage, is being urged to contact West Yorkshire Police.

Great North Road was closed northbound for several hours after the crash, leading to heavy traffic from the B1222 towards Micklefield to the Best Western Plus Milford Hotel.

Police said the road remained closed at 11:15 BST and drivers were being asked to avoid the area.
