Dangerous driving arrest after man dies on A19

A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged hit-and-run crash in which another man died.
Police were called to the A19 northbound near Hylton Grange, Sunderland, on Tuesday morning, where the man aged in his 40s was pronounced dead.
A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, Northumbria Police said.
He has been released under investigation pending further inquiries.
The road was closed most of the day between Hylton Grange Interchange and Testo's roundabout.
