Homes may be built on land off Kiddemore Green Road

Up to 100 new homes could be built on farmland in Staffordshire.

A proposed development at Hockerhill Farm, west of Brewood, is the subject of a planning application and up to 50 of the properties may be affordable homes, a statement indicated.

The application to South Staffordshire District Council, submitted by Boningale Developments Limited, seeks outline consent for the scheme at the farm, with access from Kiddemore Green Road, open space and a children's play area.

A previous application for up to 85 homes, an 80-bed care home, community facilities and green infrastructure on the site was refused permission last year by the council.

It was rejected because it was considered inappropriate development in the green belt, as well as being outside of the defined settlement boundary of Brewood.

The latest proposals would provide "significant" benefits, a planning statement said.

These included making a "positive contribution to South Staffordshire District" and the wider housing area's local housing need and contributing to the local economy through creating jobs and residents' spending, it added.

The statement said: "The significant benefits of the proposal demonstrably outweigh any harm to the openness of the green belt."

If the outline plans are approved, detailed proposals including housing type and layout would come forward in a reserved matters application for the 6.25 hectare (15.4 acre) space.
