Springs Leisure Centre is one of three earmarked for improvements

Plans to spend £1.1m on work to redevelop a leisure centre are to be discussed by councillors next week.

Sheffield City Council wants to overhaul Springs Leisure Centre, in East Bank Road, as part of a £117m scheme to improve leisure and entertainment facilities.

The initial spending would fund design and survey work to look at either rebuilding or refurbishing the site.

The council's finance and performance policy committee is due to meet on Monday to discuss the matter.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, once the surveys have been completed the cost of the preferred option would be worked out.

The council has said the proposed upgrades to the leisure centre include a new swimming pool, gym and sports hall as well as soft play and cafe facilities.

It has been suggested the site would also be used for the provision of NHS services, such as healthy weight support, smoking cessation programmes and physical rehab.

Council papers say feasibility plans and a design concept should be complete by September, with an estimated completion date for the project set for February 2028.
