Duck wardens return to town to protect birds
Duck wardens return to North Yorkshire town to protect birds
- Published
A group of ducks have been given protection by residents of a market town for the second year running.
More than 20 of the birds, including ducklings, regularly travel between the Cod Beck in Thirsk to a car park in the town centre - putting them at risk of being hit by passing vehicles.
In 2024, two adults and two of their young were killed by traffic, and a number of volunteers began acting as "duck wardens".
The wardens now spend their evenings in the car park with the ducks to ensure their safety.
