City's only council crematorium closing for a month

Brighton's only council-run crematorium will be shut for nearly a month for “major work and refurbishment”.
Woodvale Crematorium, operated by Brighton & Hove City Council, will close from Thursday until 11 September.
People arranging cremations who would in regular circumstances use Woodvale, should work with their funeral director to find an alternative location said the council.
A spokesperson for the council said: “We know this will impact some local families and would like to thank residents in advance for their understanding and patience."
Workers will be repairing and restoring the stonework on the crematorium’s two chapels – which were last refurbished in 2013.
They will also be rebricking the cremators, upgrading sound systems and television screens, repairing roads and felling trees.
Woodvale's bereavement services will be open as usual. The Garden of Remembrance and the Hall of Memory will also remain open.
From 11 September, the crematorium will be open on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays until 30 September, when normal opening hours resume.
