A main route into a town that was shut off on 6 September is expected to re-open on 10 September according to Thames Water.

A section of the A3102 Wootton Bassett Road, next to Westcott Recreation Ground in Swindon, closed unexpectedly for a burst water main just a few weeks ago at the beginning of August.

However, it has been shut by the firm for more work again, with motorists unable to go through in either direction and a large hole created in the middle of the road.

The diversion for drivers is via Westcott Place, Rodbourne Road and Great Western Way.

A view of the hole, dug out as a square in the tarmac. A large pile of debris from it to the left. Blue barriers all around the hole in the middle of the road. Red brick terraced houses line the right of the road, trees to the left. A sunny day.
