An event is planned to update Brighton and Hove residents about the ongoing restoration of one of the East Sussex city's main landmarks.

Work began at Madeira Terrace in November, a Grade II* listed structure built in the late 1800s.

Much of it has been closed to the public since 2014 for safety reasons.

The event will take place at Sea Lanes on Madeira Drive on 29 January, between 17:00 and 18:30 GMT.

Julie Cattell, lead councillor for Major Projects, said: "There will also be a question and answer session with council officers managing the project and Mackley, our lead contractor.

"Support for the restoration project has been superb.

"We recognise that construction work on such a large and complex project will inevitably impact local residents and businesses, and we want to ensure they are regularly informed on its progress and how it could affect them."

This is the first of a series of planned updates, with summaries and updates published on Brighton and Hove City Council's website., external

It is hoped most of the work will be completed by summer 2026.
