A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Felixstowe.

Suffolk Police was called to reports of an assault on the seafront promenade by Undercliff Road West on Saturday at 21:21 BST.

The next day they were called to a property in Carr Road, where the injured party from the assault - a man aged in his 20s - had been found dead.

A 28-year-old man from Felixstowe was arrested on Monday evening on suspicion of murder and is being questioned by police.

Det Insp Mark Hughes stressed there was "no wider threat to members of the public".

"Detectives are making enquiries, looking into the circumstances of the altercation and identifying those in the area at the time that may be able to assist with the investigation," he said.

"We would like to hear from anyone that might have witnessed an assault on the seafront or who might have any information that could help us in our enquiries.

"It is important to note that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to members of the public."

Officers would like those with CCTV or video doorbell footage between Ranelagh Road and Undercliff Road West to contact them.

Those who may have been driving in the area between 20:30 and 21:20 on Saturday are also urged to get in touch.
