City centre fire-ravaged building to be restored

Much of the building on Annison Street in Bradford was destroyed in a fire in early 2021

A fire-ravaged warehouse will be restored to its former use after plans were approved by Bradford Council.

The blaze that engulfed the building on Annison Street in 2021 was one of the biggest in West Yorkshire of the year, forcing the evacuation of about 30 homes while it was tackled.

The plans include repairing the existing ground floor and rebuilding the first floor, with the building set to be used for storage once again.

A council spokesperson said: “Restoring the building from its current state will see a marked improvement in terms of visual amenity for both the host property and wider street scene.”

At its height, about 80 firefighters were called out to tackle the blaze

The cause of the fire in January 2021 was said to be an electrical fault.

West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service sent 14 fire engines to the scene, with the building left as a shell without a roof.

The planning application to restore the building was submitted to the local authority by Hardeep Singh Saini.

Planning officers have now approved the building’s renovation, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
