A man has been arrested in connection with a reported rape in Bournemouth.

Dorset Police said a woman, aged in her 30s, reported being attacked by a man in a wooded area off Maxwell Road on 5 November at about 21:20 GMT.

The force said the woman had walked to the road, which runs alongside Winton Recreation Ground, with an unknown man who had approached her earlier in Charminster where she had met up with someone she knew.

A 24-year-old man from the town arrested on suspicion of rape remains in police custody.

Det Insp Mark Jenkins, of the Major Crime Investigation Team at Dorset Police, said an investigation was ongoing and specialist officers were providing support to the victim.

He said: "I would like to appeal to anyone who may have information, or who may have captured relevant CCTV footage from the area, to please get in touch."

Police remain in the area carrying out patrols and urged anyone with information or concerns to speak with an officer.
