Parish seeks volunteers for Liberation Day events

People with "special connections" will be invited to a VIP dinner

Volunteers are being sought to help a Jersey parish mark the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.

The Parish of St John announced plans to add a church service, exhibition, VIP supper, commemorative magazine and family fun day to the annual celebrations on 9 and 10 May.

It said it wanted volunteers to help make the occasion "truly special" and asked islanders to share ideas.

Constable Andy Jehan said: "This is a very important celebration and the parish plans to mark the occasion with a variety of events."

The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by German forces during World War Two.

On 9 May Jersey celebrates the anniversary of end of the occupation.

The parish said it would invite people with "special connections" to the area during the occupation to a VIP dinner.

Jehan said a drop-in session had been set up on 30 January at the parish hall where residents could find out more about the plans.
