Two men killed after a stabbing have been named by police.
Norman Scott, 68, and Sidy Fall, 75, died after the attack on Great Southern Street in the Moss Side area of Manchester at about 05:00 GMT on Sunday.
A 23-year-old man, who was known to one of the victims, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remained detained under the Mental Health Act, Greater Manchester Police said.
Both the victims were known to the Moss Side area and their families were being supported by specialist liaison officers.
Ch Sup David Meeney said: “Our thoughts remain with the families and loved ones, filled with grief after receiving the most devastating news yesterday.
“The tragedy of two lives lost has been felt throughout the community and further afield, and we are working tirelessly to understand the circumstances surrounding this incident."
Police believe the stabbing was an isolated incident and said there was no wider threat to the community.
Patrols are still active in the area and police are urging anyone with any information to contact the force.
