A woman has been arrested after two police officers were injured in a crash during a pursuit.

North Yorkshire Police followed a black Nissan Qashqai that was believed to be stolen travelling on the A1 southbound on Tuesday morning.

It failed to stop for police and headed into Wetherby, where it collided with the police car in South View. A man fled the scene, leaving behind an injured woman and a dog.

The woman was taken to hospital and arrested on suspicion of vehicle theft, theft and a dangerous dog offence.

The two officers were also taken to hospital but were not believed to be seriously injured.

Searches were ongoing for the man who left the scene, North Yorkshire Police said.

The Nissan was taken to a secure facility, while the dog was taken to a kennel.

Police appealed for anyone with information to get in touch.
