Bosses say they need to update the service to better suit the needs of the city

Plans for a new tram timetable in Nottingham include more early-morning and late-night services.

Operator Tramlink says it needs to update the service and cater to the city's night-time economy.

It also wants to accommodate people working early shifts by making more trams available before 06:00.

The timetable is expected to be submitted to Nottingham City Council in the coming weeks, and if accepted, could be implemented early next year.

The plans were confirmed to the council's Greater Nottingham Light Rapid Transit Advisory Committee on July 9.

Andrew Conroy, chief operating officer at Tramlink, said the way people used the service had "drastically changed" since it was last updated in 2014.

He said "We will propose more services into the evening and peak hours - the time when people coming out of the pub at 22:00 need them.

"Our first trams to Clifton, where there is a huge development, arrive at 06:05, when people have already started shifts.

"It felt counter-intuitive. It's a timetable designed for a different world and we need to move on."
