A cat survived being shot in the stomach after vets said she had a 50% chance of making it.

Three-year-old Narla was believed to have been shot at by someone with a pellet gun while at allotments near Marlow Road in Stoke-on-Trent.

Owner Caitlin Jenkinson took her to the Stoke PDSA Pet Hospital and an X-ray showed Narla’s spleen had been ruptured by a pellet.

Despite vets’ concerns, the surgery to remove the pellet was successful and Narla has made a full recovery.

Ms Jenkinson said she was left angry, upset and devasted by what happened on 17 March.

“The pellet had ruptured her spleen but she had clotted and luckily it didn’t cause too much damage,” she said.

“The vets at PDSA said she had a 50/50 chance of survival. They were all shocked she made it through.”

The RSPCA has launched an appeal for information in a bid to find out what happened and whether it was accidental or deliberate.

Animal rescue officer Tom Hall said: “This is a really horrifying incident and our thoughts are with Narla and her owner.

“Thankfully she has recovered, however we’d like to find out what happened here.”
