Firefighters were given a "round of a-paws" after they freed a puppy from a brick wall.

Four-month-old beagle Jeremy was stuck in a garden wall at his home for about half an hour before his owner contacted West Midlands Fire Service for help.

The trapped pup was rescued in about one minute from his prison in Brierley Hill, Dudley, on Monday, the service said.

It added Jeremy was left with no obvious signs of injury and recommended the owner to take him to the vets for a check-up.

“I’m proud of my team, who showed quick-thinking to help an animal in distress," Watch Manager Brett Mortimer said.

"Despite his ordeal, Jeremy is said to be doing well at home."
