A man has been charged with rape after a woman was attacked in the street.

She was approached from behind while walking in Hyde, Tameside, at about 06:40 BST last Friday, Greater Manchester Police said.

The force said the woman had been walking past Grafton Street, just off Clark Way.

A 24-year-old man, of Denton, has been charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault and is due to appear at Tameside Magistrates Court.

Det Insp Christopher Dean said: "All reports of incidents such as this are taken with the utmost seriousness by officers.

"I would like to thank members of the public for their support and the victim for her bravery as we continue to support her throughout this investigation."
