Town sees five 20mph limits come into force
- Published
Five Weymouth roads now have a 20mph speed limit in place.
It came into effect this week and covers the entire length of Connaught Road, Cross Road, Down Road, Glebe Close and Rectory Way.
The orders have brought in by Dorset Council primarily to protect pupils at Holy Trinity Church of England school, a day nursery and the Anning House Care Home. The road also has the Cross Road Surgery.
Cross Road itself is a popular "rat run" between Buxton Road and Wyke Road, with the whole area suffering from parking problems at school pick-up and drop-off times, leading to residents previously calling for more parking restrictions.
Several other towns in the county were given approval to introduce 20mph zones earlier this year
Parish and town councils have been able to apply for the changes following the introduction of a Dorset Council policy published last year, external.
