Police investigating the attempted theft of a cash machine at a filling station have arrested a man on suspicion of aggravated burglary.

Officers were called to the BP South Quay service station on Southgates Road in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, at 23:33 GMT on Tuesday.

The incident involved a telehandler vehicle and a fuel pump was also damaged, Norfolk Police said.

The man, in his 40s, was further arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, no insurance - and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Exmouth Road in the town was closed for a time and a police cordon remained in place at the garage forecourt.

Norfolk Police appealed for witnesses, adding: "A second suspect is outstanding, and enquiries are ongoing."
