Rape arrest after car park cordoned off

Swindon's Dammas Lane car park was cordoned off on Sunday

A man has been arrested following a report of a serious sexual assault in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The incident happened at the Dammas Lane car park in Old Town, Swindon, with the area cordoned off on the day.

The man in his 20s was arrested on Sunday evening on suspicion of rape and was taken into custody at Gablecross for questioning.

Police said the cordon had now been lifted but enquiries would continue.

The force added that it took such reports "extremely seriously" with the victim being supported by specialist officers.
