A 14-year-old girl arrested on suspicion of arson following a fatal house fire has been released with no further action.

Emergency services went to Bedale Drive, Leicester, in the early hours of 10 September.

A six-year-old girl, named locally as Chamiah Brindley, was found to have died inside but police said she still had not been formally identified.

Now an investigation led by Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service has concluded no criminal act has been committed.

'Answers for the family'

Others within the address at the time received hospital treatment as a precaution and have since been discharged.

Det Insp Michael Chandler said it had been a "complex" investigation.

He added: "We have carried out extensive and thorough inquiries with the fire service and scientific experts over the past few weeks in order to establish the circumstances of the fire and to find answers for the family as quickly as we could.

"Following these inquiries, the investigation has concluded that no criminal act has been committed.

"A file will now be prepared for HM Coroner."
