A man has been jailed over a machete attack inside a car that led to the victim having surgery to amputate part of his left leg.
Mason Knight, of Chesil Avenue, Nottingham, carried out the attack shortly after picking up two men outside a pub in Lenton on 26 April.
The 24-year-old stabbed one of them in the leg, causing injuries so severe surgeons had to perform the amputation.
On Tuesday, Knight received a 14-year prison sentence, with a five-year extended licence on release, after he pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, two counts of theft, and possessing a knife in a public place.
'Devastating injuries'
Police said Knight's victim had been out celebrating a friend's birthday when they were both offered a lift.
He stabbed one of them and stole jewellery from both.
Det Con Megan Guy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said Knight was a "dangerous man who belongs behind bars".
"His mindless and reckless decision to do what he did left another man with devastating injuries he will now have to live with forever.
"While no punishment will ever make up for what Knight did, we hope the sentence passed will provide some small degree of respite to the victim going forward."
