Weight loss injections are prescription-only medications in the UK

Three women arrested when a woman fell seriously ill after using a weight loss jab, allegedly sourced from a North Yorkshire salon, have been released from bail with no further action taken.

Their arrests came after the woman from Selby was treated in intensive care for suspected internal injuries in May. She was later discharged from hospital.

Two women, aged 32 and 37, were arrested on suspicion of causing or administering a poison, and a 58-year-old woman was held on suspicion of supplying a prescription-only medicine.

North Yorkshire Police said no further action would be taken against the women involved and the investigation had been closed.

There have been a number of warnings from health organisations about ensuring those individuals supplying medications, such as Wegovy and Mounjaro, are legitimate.

In May, the Humber and North Yorkshire Integrated Care Board said: "There has been a lot of attention in the media and on social media about these so-called 'skinny jabs', but as with any medicines bought outside of legitimate supply chains, the contents may not match the ingredients on the label."

The drugs have been made available on the NHS, however patients must meet strict criteria to receive them.

Both drugs continue to be available privately.
