We aim to thrive, says theatre after fundraiser

The theatre was at risk of closure earlier this year

A community theatre has successfully reached its fundraising target after financial difficulties put it under threat of closure earlier this year.
The Cheltenham Playhouse ran a number of fundraising initiatives, including a sponsored 12-hour monologue and special shows, to raise its target of £100,000.
Many businesses and individuals also donated and Cheltenham Borough Council also provided a £25,000 boost to help keep the Grade II listed building open.
"We are heralding a new era as we move out of a year when we just needed to get through to December and survive, into a year where we aim to thrive," said theatre manager Miles Leven.
"This financial milestone is a vital positive step for the charity; this year has possibly been the charity's toughest act yet, but we are still standing," he added.
"We have been overwhelmed by the determination of everyone connected to the theatre and are grateful from the bottom of our hearts for how they have come out to support us."
Trustees and organisers behind the theatre believe that this is the start of a "more positive journey" for the Playhouse, but say that fundraising will always be a key component of its business model alongside signature events like the upcoming Christmas pantomime.
"Every penny spent on tickets benefits the charity and allows us to go into 2026 on a sure footing. Survive to thrive is within our reach," said Mr Leven.
