Emergency repairs are due to take place after a piece of masonry fell from a church in Wolverhampton.

A spokesperson for St Peter's Collegiate Church said a large piece of stonework fell from above the south porch on 26 May. No-one was injured.

The church, which is in Lich Gates in the city centre, remains open for visits and private prayer during opening hours, external, but a section is cordoned off.

Church leaders said they hoped "the work to make the site safe" will be carried out this week.

"Fortunately nobody was hurt, but we have had to fence off the south door, which means that there is currently no ramped disabled access to the church," a statement on Facebook said.

"We are really sorry about this, but safety is our main concern."
