Seven people have been arrested after the theft of electricity from a caravan park.

Police were called to Crompton Lodge Caravan Park in Moses Gate, Bolton, on Tuesday.

Three men, aged between 19 and 30, and four women, aged between 25 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of abstracting electricity.

Two vehicles, believed to be used in the crime, were also seized at the scene, police said.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said the illegal abstraction of electricity was suspected to cost taxpayers in the range of tens of thousands of pounds over four years.

They said: "Stealing energy and tampering with electricity meters and cables can be dangerous.

"Police and partnership resources have been deployed to the area to ensure it is safe to search."
