A pub in Dorset is hosting a series of fundraising events to raise money for a local amateur jockey who suffered life-changing injuries following a fall.

Alice Procter from Glanvilles Wootton near Sherborne fell from her horse at Cartmel Racecourse in July.

The 21-year-old was flown by air ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital where she underwent surgery for a spinal fracture.

The Skippers pub has organised a charity football match, auction and raffle on Saturday to support Ms Procter.

Tracey Hampson, the Sherborne pub's landlady said: "She's only 21 years old so it's a massive shock.

"Sadly this has brought major changes into Alice's life so we are coming together as a community to help with the support she needs.

"Alice needs to be home as soon as she can - but all the major costs involved are through the roof.

"No-one expected something like this to happen so we've got to try and support them."

Following successful surgery on a fractured spine the Injured Jockeys' Fund (IJF) said Ms Procter's injury continued to affect the "lower half of her body".

Now out of intensive care, it's hoped she could be well enough to spend Christmas at home with her family.
