Man dies weeks after altercation in pub courtyard

Five men have been arrested in connection to the death of a man who died in hospital two weeks after being injured in an altercation outside a pub.

Devon and Cornwall Police said it was called to the Kings Arms in Ottery St Mary at about 22:15 GMT on 2 November to reports of an altercation involving a group of people in the courtyard.

A local man, 67, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and died on 17 November - his next of kin has been made aware.

The police said it was investigating and has appealed for any relevant information.

The force said five men, all local to the Ottery St Mary area, were arrested in connection to the incident and have been released on police bail until February 2026 pending further inquiries.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Two men, aged 33 and 47, were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and violent disorder.

Two other men, aged 31 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.
