Careers support offered at city drop-in sessions

Residents could get one-to-one help with training and careers advice, the council said

People in Wolverhampton looking for employment, training or career development opportunities are being encouraged to visit drop-in events being held across the city.

The council's Wolves at Work team is offering one-to-one support with CV writing, job application and interview skills, plus help with travel and small work-related costs and up to six months of support while job seeking.

The team would also have access to hundreds of local vacancies and can make referrals to partners including the National Careers Service, the authority said.

Chris Burden, council cabinet member for jobs and skills, said the scheme, part of Employability Week, had helped hundreds into work over the past year.

"Securing a brighter future for local people by getting them into good jobs and training is one of the key priorities for the city," he said.

"Employability Week brings this into sharp focus – and the community drop-in sessions are invaluable in reaching those who need support."

The drop-in sessions include:

• Oasis Café on Whitburn Close - Wednesday 9 July between 13:00 and 14:30 BST

• Bilston Public Library and Art Gallery, Mount Pleasant in Bilston - Thursday 10 July between 10:00 and 13:00 BST

• Bushbury Lane Academy on Ripon Road - Thursday 10 July between 08:45 and 11:30 BST

• Windsor Nursery, Windsor Road - Friday 11 July between 08:30 and 15:30 BST
