A sentimental and "irreplaceable" World War One medal has been stolen from a home, police said.

A number of heirlooms were taken from a property in Oakfield Road, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, between 19:00 and 23:00 GMT on Thursday 20 March, Hertfordshire Police added.

The items included a personally engraved Allied Victory medal and an Irish Police 1903 medal.

It said it wanted to hear from anyone who may have been offered them for sale.

Det Con Sally Milligan said: "These are understandably irreplaceable heirlooms with huge sentimental value.

"We would like to hear from anyone who may have been offered these medals for sale or anyone who has any doorbell footage or any information about the burglary."

The force hoped to reunite the medals with their owners, she added.
