A 20-year-old man who stabbed a man in the back at a petrol station has been given a hospital order.
Ibrahim Hazell, from Cambridge, attacked the man, in his 40s, outside a BP petrol station on Cherry Hinton Road in the city, in the early hours of 5 April 2024.
The victim was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital and treated for a stab wound to the lower back and multiple internal injuries.
Hazell was given the order under section 37 of the Mental Health Act at the city's crown court on Wednesday.
Hazell ran away from the scene and was later identified after a public CCTV appeal.
He admitted causing grievous bodily harm at a previous hearing at the same court.
An additional section 41 restriction on Hazell's hospital order means he can only be discharged from hospital if the justice secretary agrees.
Det Con Alex Galan-Tarachiu from Cambridgeshire Police said: "This was a completely unprovoked attack which initially left the victim in a critical condition.
"I hope the sentence provides some reassurance to the victim."
