A section of the A50 has reopened after being closed for most of the day following a serious crash.

National Highways said the road was initially closed both ways between the M1, near Castle Donington, Leicestershire, and the A6, near Aston on Trent in Derbyshire, after a car hit a pedestrian on Wednesday morning.

The eastbound carriageway opened a few hours later followed by the westbound side in the evening.

Emergency services and an air ambulance attended the scene and officers also assisted with traffic management, National Highways said.
