Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 15-year-old boy.

Darius Popan was found injured on a section of the Trans Pennine Trail between Sprotbrough and Warmsworth in Doncaster in the evening of 27 July.

He was taken to hospital but died the next day, South Yorkshire Police said.

The force said two boys aged 17 and a 15-year-old girl had been arrested on suspicion of his murder and remained in custody.

'Multiple injuries'

The three had initially been arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences and had been on police bail.

A post-mortem examination found Darius, who was from Doncaster, had died as a result of multiple injuries.

Police said his family was being supported and asked the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances of his death.

Det Insp Simon Cartwright said: "We would urge people to please be mindful of our ongoing investigation and the thoughts of Darius' family as they continue to grieve.

"I do, however, want to encourage anyone with information about this incident to please get in touch with us if you haven't already done so."
