Herefordshire's new gritting lorries have been named, following a competition for local children.

Almost 100 children entered the competition in October.

The winning names include Taylor Drift, Who Dares Grits and Ready Salted.

Children who won were invited to the depot to see their gritters in person and pick up a special registration plate displaying their gritter name.

One of the winners, Lottie, said she was "over the moon" when she heard her name had won.

"I like Taylor Swift, so thought about how I could create a name from that and the word 'drift' came to me," she said.

"I enjoyed the naming event and especially the chance to sit in Taylor Drift and be shown around and find out how the gritting all works."

Another, Robyn, said she liked the bright lights and colours of the gritters.

"When I grow up I hope to drive the quad or maybe a gritter.

"I will look out for Humpfreeze on cold days."

The winning entries were:

  • Snow-way! – named by Theo

  • Ice-a-saurus Rex – named by Harry

  • Sprinkle – named by Benji

  • Humpfreeze – named by Robyn

  • Sir Grit-a-Lot – named by Daisy

  • Julius Freezer – named by Lucy

  • Ready Salted – named by Eli-Jacob

  • Taylor Drift – named by Lottie

  • Who Dares Grits – named by Sienna
