Work to repair a bandstand damage by vandals should be complete by August.

Tamworth Borough Council said the project, which started in April, would cost £107,000.

The bandstand in the grounds of Tamworth Castle suffered damage to its gate and balustrades in October 2023 and the repairs had been expected to take 12 weeks, but further investigation turned up extra work which needed doing.

The task includes replacing timbers, joists and floorboards.

Ben Clarke, the councillor responsible for planning, said it was "often the case" that further examination would turn up work in this way.

He said the additional problems were identified "as the structure was opened up, exposing parts of the structure that were not previously accessible".

This news was gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service which covers councils and other public service organisations.
