More trains laid on for East Anglian derby

The match at Portman Road has sold out

Additional trains are being laid on for football fans heading to the East Anglian derby.

Saturday will be the first time Norwich and Ipswich have played each other since the Canaries beat Town at Carrow Road in 2019.

Greater Anglia said it would run an additional 09:48 GMT train from Norwich to Ipswich and a return service at 15:00.

Kick off at Portman Road is at 12:30, with almost 30,000 fans expected.

Martin Moran, Greater Anglia's commercial director, said: "We know this match is very important to thousands of our customers, which is why we are running additional trains.

"To save time, passengers are advised to buy tickets online or via the Greater Anglia app before they travel."

Greater Anglia said its normal half-hourly trains would also run between Norwich and Ipswich.

Police said roads would be closed around Portman Road and the nearby railway station

Suffolk Police said it was planning a "large policing operation" with additional officers at the stadium, railway station and in Ipswich town centre.

Ipswich are currently second in the EFL Championship, while Norwich are 13th.
