A Cotswold café has been granted permission to sell alcohol every day of the week.

The Rest in King's Stanley near Stonehouse serves coffee, breakfast and light meals and includes an outdoor seating area and car park.

The owner, Adam Knight, told Stroud District Council's licensing committee that he did not want the premises licence to run a pub, adding it was not his life to be working until 01:00.

Objections were raised by local residents concerned about noise, but the licence was granted on Monday for the sale of alcohol from 10:00 until 23:00 daily.

The Rest is located in part of a converted barn in Broad Street on the edge of the village.

This year, three temporary event notices have been submitted for events at the venue including a music gig and sale of alcohol at a dog show.

Concern over noise

Seven objections were raised by nearby residents, stating that the sale of alcohol would more cause "noise nuisance and disturbance".

In response to this, Mr Knight told the licencing committee: "I want to run a cafe.

"That's the sort of venue that we run. It's not a pub. It's not going to become a pub."

Mr Knight explained that he did not want to run events late into the night and has turned away several bookings for events stating that he does "not want to go on until midnight or 1am".

The licensing panel said it was satisfied the necessary licensing objectives had been met and granted the application.
