The former Nottingham Forest and England captain Stuart Pearce has made a cameo appearance in a new England football music video.

Pearce, 62, is seen kicking a ball and encouraging young players in the film for "England Together" by the Northampton singer-songwriter Maddox Jones.

The song will raise money for a charity which uses football to support people struggling with their mental health.

Jones said he wanted to cheer on the England team in Euro 2024 and highlight mental health issues.

The video also included people from places like Kingsthorpe, Abington, Spinney Hill and Semilong

Jones made his debut as a solo artist in 2020, with the EP Headspace, which reached number four in the iTunes singer-songwriter chart.

His follow-up single hit the top spot in the same chart, and BBC Introducing Northampton tipped him as "one to watch".

He released We All Need Somebody last year in support of mental health awareness, and is supporting the same cause with England Together.

The song's video - filmed in Northampton - starts with a young footballer receiving a new football which he kicks over a wall.

The ball turns up in various places before Pearce is seen kicking it, then handing it back to its owner and winking at the camera.

Pearce travelled to Euro 1992 and 1996 with the Three Lions squad.

Local people from the town appear in the video playing football or marching down the street singing the song.

Jones said: "We wanted to highlight the diverse cultures we have in this town and beyond all over England.

"It’s a message of inclusivity and how football can bring people together."

The video on YouTube has already been viewed more than 100,000 times.

Proceeds from the single will go to the charity Head in the Game, which supports mental health through football programmes.
