Developer seeks to add more flats in extension

A property developer has been looking to add more flats to an existing block by building a new top floor extension.
In January permission was granted on appeal to Avon Ground Rents Ltd to build three new flats on top of Edeva Court in Wulfstan Way, Cambridge.
The developer now wants to increase the number of flats it can build on top of the block to four, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
People living in the three-storey building have expressed concerns about the impact of the extension.
'Adverse impact'
The latest proposal is for three one-bedroom flats, and one two-bedroom flat.
In plans submitted to Cambridge City Council, Avon Ground Rents Ltd said: “Each flat is designed to comply with the nationally described space standards and will be provided with generous kitchen, living [and] dining areas.”
The authority initially refused to give permission to the original plans to build a new floor on top of the block of flats, which includes 12 apartments.
Concerns had been raised by people living in the building that the extension on top of their homes would have a “permanent and irreversible adverse impact on the character and appearance” of the suburban area.
However, the city council’s decision was overturned after the developer appealed to the Planning Inspectorate.
The agency said the proposals would be a “sensitive, upwards extension” of the building, which would add three new homes to the supply of housing within the city.
The city council will now be asked to consider the developer's latest proposals to build four new flats, rather than three, on the additional floor.
