Spooky experiences for This Country stars in old pub

Things went bump in the night at The Four Crosses, a historic 17th century coaching inn in Cannock

A night in a supposedly haunted pub proved quite the spooky experience for This Country creators Daisy May Cooper and her brother Charlie.
The pair stayed at The Four Crosses, a historic 17th century coaching inn in Cannock, Staffordshire, for an episode of their new series Nightwatch where they sleep over at some of the UK's spookiest places.
The old pub was built in 1636, is situated along an old Roman road, and is reportedly home to a poltergeist called Drunk Charlie.
"There was definitely an atmosphere," Ms Cooper said. "It was one of the spookiest places, I think," her brother said.
"There was like a cellar where they would all kind of meet, the highwaymen, and it was just very spooky," Ms Cooper said.
"I felt like something sat down on my bed in the night, like somebody."
However, her brother pointed out it might have been her hot water bottle flipping over.
The series had taken them to some amazing historic places, Mr Cooper said.
"Me and Daisy go on a bit of ghost hunt, but ghost hunt in a very loose sense of the term – there's not a lot of ghost hunting," he said.
"It's about us reconnecting through our love of the paranormal," Ms Cooper said.
She said the pair used to love the series Strange But True, and that their family would often take them to psychic nights.
"I remember we went to one where there was a guy who would do psychic readings and then in between he'd start singing Elvis songs," she said.
Other locations in the series include Chillingham Castle in Northumberland and Carew Castle in Wales.
"Because we filmed it in January and February, we were just cold the entire time," Mr Cooper said. "That didn't help the nerves."
NightWatch, featuring The Four Crosses in Cannock, will air on Sunday at 21:30 GMT on BBC 2 and can be seen on IPlayer.
