A man in his 60s has died following a house fire in the early hours of Saturday, Wiltshire Police has said.

The force said it was called by the fire service after a blaze broke out at an address on The Pry, Purton, Wiltshire, just before 04:00 BST.

Firefighters had removed the man from the house but despite medical attention, he was declared dead at the scene, police said.

The force says it is working with the fire service to investigate the incident and establish the cause of the fire.

Specialist officers

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said it had been called to a "severe fire in a house annexe".

The service said six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reel jets and two main jets to extinguish the blaze.

Police say the man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Anyone with information is urged to get in contact with the force.
